Itinerary

After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate (1,860 m). Complete registration and start trekking through lush rainforest. Spot blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus. Trekking: 4–5 hours | Distance: 8 km | Altitude gain: +840 m Overnight: Mandara Hut (dormitory-style with beds)


Optional hike toward Mawenzi Peak (up to ~4,600 m, 4–5 hours round trip) for excellent acclimatization – proven to double your summit success chances. Rest and recover in the afternoon. Overnight: Horombo Hut | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner


Walking distance: ~10 km | 5–7 hours | Alpine desert Cross the lunar-like saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and dramatic. Early dinner and rest – summit night starts just after midnight. Overnight: Kibo Hut | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner


Walking distance: ~6 km ascent + 16 km descent | 11–15 hours total | Very strenuous Midnight start under headlamps. Steep climb on frozen scree to Gillman’s Point (5,685 m) on the crater rim, then continue along the rim to Uhuru Peak – the Roof of Africa! Celebrate sunrise at the summit (weather permitting). Descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut. Overnight: Horombo Hut | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
