Mgahinga National Park is located in the Virunga Mountains and encompasses three inactive volcanoes, namely Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabyinyo. It is contiguous with Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park and the southern sector of Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Things to do include mountain gorilla tracking, golden monkey tracking, volcano hiking, nature walks, bird watching and Batwa community visit.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is situated along the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) border next to the Virunga National Park and on the edge of the Albertine Rift and notable for the 459 Bwindi gorillas according to the census of 2019, hence holding half of the world's population of the endangered mountain gorillas.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is set majestically in the shadow of the Rwenzori, flanking Lakes Edward and George, the lush Savannah of Queen Elizabeth National Park offers prime grazing to buffalo, elephant and various antelope. A checklist of 600-plus bird species testifies to the extraordinary ecological diversity of this park. Mammalian specialties include the (elsewhere elusive) giant forest hog, and the legendary tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha Sector.
Rwenzori Mountains National Park protects the eastern slopes and glacial peaks of the 120km-long Rwenzori Mountains or ‘Mountains of the Moon’, a world-class hiking and mountaineering destination whose significance as a source of the Nile was first alluded to by the geographer Ptolemy circa 150 AD. Rising from the Rift Valley floor to a wintry elevation of 5,109m, the Rwenzori supports large tracts of evergreen and bamboo forest, while the higher moorland zone is known for its other-worldly cover of giant heather, lobelias and groundsels.
All the above destinations are managed by Uganda Wildlife authority which is a statutory body registered in Uganda.
