In time for lunch we arrive at Elsamere Lodge on Lake Naivasha. After lunch we take a one hour boat trip to the Crescent Island peninsula. We watch hippos, pelicans and other water birds. From Hell’s Gate to Aberdare – Hike, Wildlife & Highlands After breakfast, we head to Hell’s Gate National Park, known for its dramatic landscapes and rich wildlife. On a scenic hike through Hell’s Gate Gorge, we spot zebras, baboons, antelopes, and possibly cheetahs or leopards. We visit the striking 25-meter-high Fischer’s Tower, a volcanic rock spire popular with climbers. After a two-hour hike, we pass the Olkaria Geothermal Power Plant and stop for lunch at the nearby Olkaria Spa restaurant. In the afternoon, we continue to Aberdare National Park, a cool, forested highland region reaching up to 4,000 meters. We arrive at the Fishing Lodge (approx. 3,000 m), our self-catering mountain retreat. As the cook prepares dinner, we take a short walk through the serene alpine surroundings. The Aberdare Mountains are home to elephants, buffalo, lions, rhinos, and more. A 400 km electric fence protects both the park’s wildlife and surrounding farmland. The lodge is on the path of an ancient elephant migration route between the Aberdare Ranges and Mt. Kenya National Park. It is strategically located right in front of a natural water hole and salt lick and is the perfect place to spot game.
